Redact your bank statement before sharing it
Upload the statement, draw black boxes over everything the recipient doesn’t need and save. “Search & redact” marks every occurrence of a name at once. When you save, the text under the boxes is really deleted from the file.

What should you redact?
Whether for a rental application, a benefits claim or a loan, recipients usually only need specific information such as regular salary payments or rent. Other transactions — health spending, donations, memberships — reveal a lot about you. What an organization may request depends on the process; ask if unsure.
Why a black box in an image editor isn’t enough
Drawing a black rectangle in a PDF viewer only covers the text. It’s still in the file and can be copied or found by search. Here the affected characters are actually removed from the page content on save — while surrounding text stays exactly in place.
Check after redacting
- Open the saved PDF.
- Search (Ctrl/⌘+F) for a redacted term — there should be no match.
- Select and copy a redacted area — nothing should be pasted.
Tips
- Unlike a black box drawn in an image editor, redacted text here can no longer be copied or searched.
- Double-check the result with your PDF viewer’s search.
- Text inside embedded images or scans is covered, not removed as text.
