Why copy & paste isn’t enough

Copying a table from a PDF into Excel usually lands everything in a single column — or every cell in its own row. PDFs store no table structure, only text at positions. The converter reconstructs the columns from those positions.

Which tables work well

  • Clearly separated columns with consistent alignment.
  • Tables spanning several pages — each page becomes its own block.
  • Numbers in common formats like 1,234.56.
Scanned tables contain no text. Run OCR first.

After converting

  • Check that numbers are right-aligned in Excel — that means they were recognized as numbers.
  • Remove repeated header rows from multi-page tables with a filter.
  • Compare a few totals with the PDF to make sure no row was split.

Tips

  • Tables are detected from text alignment — clear columns give the best results.
  • English and German number formats are recognized, including € and %.
  • Run scanned tables through OCR first.
